    I've never used SPICE and probably never will. Bob Pease of National Semiconductor expresses the reasons not to more eloquently than I can:

    ····"What's all this Spicey Stuff, Anyhow? (Part III)"
    ····"What's all this Spicey Stuff, Anyhow? (Part IV)"

    Parts I and II date back to 1990 and, unfortunately, are not available online — at least that I could find.

    I use it quite often. Like all simulation tools, you need to know what you are doing.

    Phil,

    Bob Pease is an interesting character if you ever get an opportunity to meet him in person. ...Not sure why parts I and II are not available though.

    As far as spice of any flavor, I usually only use it for a ball park proof of concept. In most cases, depending on the circuit complexity, a spice simulation
    will be true to the actual board layout. In some cases though it's only a start in a good direction, not necessarily the right direction.

    Beau,

    I encountered Bob Pease once at a trade show but was too awestruck to speak to him. It was as if Elvis himself had walked past our booth! I always read his columns, which are, in equal parts, entertaining and informative. I think the missing Parts I and II are simply because they were pretty much pre-internet and have never been uploaded to the ED website.

    Bob Pease is a God, and Gods don't need spice to do magic. smile.gif

    Well, judging from the picture in the link, he at least appears to glow in the dark. wink.gif

    Loopy, thanks for posting Pease's website...

    @Phil: I posted a request there for parts I & II --- let's see what happens.

    I use the free version of symetrix

    its main plus is its flexible graphics plotting output.

    The Pulsonix PCB software I use includes Simetrix SPICE. It's a very good implementation

    Mike and Leon,
    thanks for mentioning SIMetrix - I've been trying it out here the last several hours. It's quite impressive.
