Prop Expo - Thank You!!

I want to let people know just how much myself and the other attendees appreciated the Expo...

It's actually difficult to cover EVERYONE that needs a proper thanking, but I will do my best.

Jeff Ledger (OBC) - Without whom this gathering of talent & entertainment would not have occurred. I saw in action, Jeff working his·butt off...on very little sleep...and always with a gracious attitude, attention to detail and concern for everyone involved.

Parallax - If you where not present...then you may not know...these guys did EVERYTHING possible to make sure all who where there had a great time. They really rolled out the red carpet for attendees, there must have been 15+ parallax employees for the better part of the day. They provided way more than I expected in the way of: (1) Food, (2) Project Space, (3) Soldering Space, (4) Tours, (5) Sales, (6) Tools/Equipment/Parts...etc, (7) Hospitality. Everyone that was part of the Parallax team went out of their way to make sure that everyone had everything they could want to make it a better experience. And most important, they ALL where awesome people...I can't name everyone except to say that I was highly impressed with EVERYONE. Technically speaking, everyone was talking about project ideas..mulling over possible solutions...It felt like I was talking with other Prop heads!! And they ALL had time for anyone who asked....They are really a special company.

Speakers/Presenters - I enjoyed/learned so much from every speaker, and I know that its not easy to get a project together and get up in front of a crowd and explain it...but you all did so well and shared your hard work with everyone. I'm VERY excited about some of the topics that hit very close to things I'm working on....I'll let those presenters get around to making posts of their own.

Attendees - WOW!! So many people that I have read on these very forums in one room! It was pleasure to meet all of you, you all traveled from long distances to be a part of the event...and you all came early and stayed late :).

Thanks to all above...you made my year.

Rick

Holy cow, that was fun!

Thank you, OBC, for all your hard work. Un. Frickin'. Believable. Folks, this man is a stud.
Thank you, Parallax, for your incredible generosity in hosting this event and making us feel so welcome.
Thank you, OBC's unsung helpers, for making everything run so smoothly.
Thank you, fellow Propellerheads, for being so interesting and interested, and for being such a friendly and receptive audience for my presentation.

My wife and I had a total blast and we will be at UPENE in August.

Thank You all!

It was a great experience, seeing and watching all the propeller enthusiasts, young and old. An inspiring environment, if only old Edison were wrong with his: "an invention is 1% of inspiration and 99% of transpiration". Due to climate control and progress we may shift it to 10% and 90%. Anyway, inspiration is sufficient for a livetime.

Hope, there will be more opportunities to meet in the future! And once we organize UPEOE "old europe"

I second CassLan's comments.· It was a lot of fun.

Hey ErNa! I bet we're on the same flight this morning.

I think Parallax would do well with a Germany Expo. I have a feeling that they do a lot of business with Germans...
Bet I could get my wife to go with me if they every do one in Germany!

I would also like to thank Jeff (OBC) and Parallax. There is a reason why Parallax has loyal customers. I always recommend Parallax to people starting in electronics and robitics.

I wasn't able to spend a whole lot of time at the expo, but from 9-2, it was excellent. From the other posts, it seems like the excellence didn't slow down at all. Jeff (Old Bit Collector), his wife, and the entire Parallax staff deserve a huge round of applause for the overall quality of the event. I wasn't expecting a free lunch or freebies that were new (I was only expecting freebies from the scrap freebie table). Next year, I will attend the entire expo start to finish, hopefully with a prop project to show!

I am a hardcore "stamp"er but have been looking at SX/B and the SX for some of my projects. Since I am so close to Parallax (13 miles), I couldn't pass up the expo and thought I should take a look at the Propeller as well for my projects. To say the least, my most complex project ideas are child's play for the Prop! Seeing some of the projects there and listening to the speakers really pumped up my interest for the propeller. I was floored by some of the autonomous control projects (the RC Plane controller and spin sailboat) and the level of functionality that one little chip had to offer to someone like me, a basic programmer (no pun intended).

Thanks again to OBC for facilitating the event. Thanks again also to Parallax for putting the user community at the top of the priority list.

Thank you all for the kind words...

I'm finally got a few hours of sleep this afternoon and as soon as
I get things unpacked, and get a few things back on track, I
will file a complete report.

I want all of you to know that there were a lot of incredible people
working in the background. (Parallaxians) who did so much to make
everything which you enjoyed possible. When I arrived Friday to
make final decisions on layout, I found ALL of the tools I needed
in place and ready to go as I pulled into the parking lot.

You will find NO FINER folks to do a project like this than the people
at Parallax. Contributing their talents, and offering their weekend
to go above and beyond expectations. It was extremely easy to
"look good" with so much support in the background.

While being exhausted from UPEW, I'm honestly looking forward
to UPENE 2009. We've raised the bar now and with much work
to do, I'll be putting preparation for that show into high gear in
about one week.

OBC

Congratulations to OBC and Parallax for an obvious fantastic unofficial expo. I certainly missed an enjoyable weekend and eagerly await the publishing of what everyone discovered. Not only do we have a fantastic chip in the Propeller, we have enormous support as well. And it seems like we are not even using the prop like chip envisiged (with voice). WOW !!!

I just wanted to add my thanks to OBC for all his work in organizing this event, and to the folks at Parallax, especially Chip and Ken Gracey - that truly is an exceptional company that you've built. To the presenters I say Good Show! It's great to see the diverse and interesting things that people are doing with this technology, and it's amazing that the people who are spending so much of their time building things are so willing to share their experiences - and in many cases, their designs and source code - with the larger community.

UPENE is probably out of the question for me, but I'll sure keep my eyes open for a UPEW 2010!

The UPEW was both well-planned and impeccably executed — a thoroughly professional production by all parties involved!

Obvious to all present were the high-profile presence, planning, and execution of and by the event coordinators. Not so obvious were the advance and behind-the-scenes activities necessary for the success of an event like this. Sign-in was a breeze with name badges and handouts at the ready. Food seemed magically to appear at just the right times. (I partook of the breakfast buffet at the hotel on Saturday morning. When I arrived at the Expo, I realized that I should have held off: Parallax's array of breakfast eats was much better!) Even the stifling heat (outdoors, not indoors) was accounted for by a copious and always-available supply of bottled water and other essential hydrating beverages.

To accommodate 140+ people with such grace and seeming ease requires more than a little preparation, sacrifice, and experience. All these attributes, and more, were manifest in breathtaking abundance at the UPEW. The event made me feel not only welcomed, entertained, and informed, but downright pampered!

My hat's off to OBC and his dedicated helpers and to the entire crew of Parallax (and their families) for a wonderfully successful (un)official Expo! Thank you!

All expectations were exceeded.
As everyone has already said, without exception every single person I met, Parallax employee and Expo attendee alike were fantastic.
What an incredibly diverse group of people and interests the Propeller community brings together...
As someone else mentioned, the opportunity to talk with the folks from the forums was worth the trip alone.
It was inspiring to see all the projects and the complexity of the work being done was awesome.
Every minute was sheer enjoyment and am already looking forward to the next.
Jeff and the group at Parallax aced the hole on this, it was a privilege to be a part of it.
My thanks also, to Ken, Chip and the entire Parallax staff for hosting, Jeff (and his roadies) for the tireless work you've done in the planning and execution.

Cheers,

- dave
