Lithium IRON, not Lithium Ion battery technology

I am reading the newpaper today and it is touting Lithium Iron technology as the more recent and best of Lithium Ion batteries. Since anyone that can settle the battery technology is going to make a bundle in the automotve industry and alternative energy, I am wonder if this is just hype or reality.

LiFe, the latest and greatest. For now. An improvement of lithium ion batteries, but still basically a lithium ion battery.

" While Lithium iron phosphate cell has the best safety characteristics, long cycle life (up to 2000 cycles) and good availability. It is very suitable for high discharge
rate occasions such as EV (including e-bike, electric scooter, and electric car), power tools, UPS and solar energy system. " - from bike link above.

Looks like some good stuff to feed our robots and electronics!

Wikipedia was very informative. Apparently you must age them and they get better with use. The first 20 hours of use should be careful not to over-discharge them. But once they get broken in, they are less prone to fire and explosion.
