Anyone used YM3812?

Just wondering if anyone has used the YM3812 or similar Sound Chip to do andanced sound synthesis on the prop?

    That's a very old chip! MCUs are fast enough to do that sort of thing in software, these days.

    How much ram and cogs does this take up though? What if i want sound synth to be only a small part of my project.
    i.e. A startup sound that plays when it is turned on.

    The synth engine needs 1 cog for 10 voices (YM3812 = 9 voices), or 2 cogs for 20 voices.
    Memory: ~1350 longs, for the tone generator, without the midi player.

    The total memory depends on the player part, and where the music data is stored. But this is the same, if you do it with a YM chip.

    If you search a minimal footprint music player, the HydraSoundSystem may be a better solution.
