PCB Manufacturing

Hi everyone, just a question. I have designed 2 PCBs using KiCad for culminating my BOE-BOT-ESQUE project (I am calling it MTE1, Mobile Tracked Explorer v1), and am not sure where exactly to get the PCBs made. I have checked BatchPCB and its manufacterer Golden Pheneox. Just wondering if anyone knows a better place to go for the best price possible. The reason i ask is that, and maybe these prices aren't that bad, but my dimensions for one board are 2.77"x1.52", and the other are 2.75" x 4.24". With $5 shipping and a $10 process fee the total at BatchPCB comes to $57 for one of each board. Is this a good price, or should i look elsewhere. I know there are sooo many knowledgable people here, so thats why I ask for you opinions.

Thank
-Michael morris

That sounds rather expensive. Try PCB Pool, you'll get them much quicker and cheaper.

Michael, Are these double sided boards? If you send me the schematic, Philip.McCorkle@mavs.uta.edu, I might be able to make you some prototypes for the price of the materials. I stated in another forum(I think the sandbox), that I'm looking for people that want a PCB made and that I'll do it just for the experience. I've become pretty good at making them, but I'm always looking for opportunities to better my skills.

    Phil,

The PCBs you are making, are they plated through?

Vias and holes that are plated with copper (PTH), so that you don't have to join the top and bottom pads with component leads or wire. Most double-sided boards use PTH and most suppliers assume that customers want PTH.

Um... Yes PTH is what batchPCB offers, that is, i believe what i will be getting. I am going through my designs (in KiCad) right now, and i will probably just break down and order them through batchPCB later today. The pictures below show how small my new mobile base are, and i cannot place more than one Breadboard on top for prototyping. I need to have these boards made to test everything together with programming.

But, I must say, I am very proud at how far I have come. From "Junkbots BugBots and Bots on Wheels" (just very small solar powered projects) to where i am today. I am finnaly finishing a goal of mine, which was to build a small (under 5" x 5") autonomous robot, with tracks.

I ordered one of each board through BatchPCB. When i redesign the board for space and to switch motor driver ICs I will go for the 100inch panel, but for now this will work. Thank you all for your suggestions. I'm alot more PCB savy now because of all of you.
