Having a hard time finding a P channel mosfet driver chip...

Hello again...Does anyone know of a good P channel mosfet drive chip that will completely turn OFF a P channel mosfet.· My problem is that in using a P channel to control the current output from a solar panel to a battery bank, I cannot get the mosfet to complete turn off.· The 12 volts from the battery bank isn't high enough to fully turn off the P channel mosfet, allowing about 300 millamps to still flow.

Have you looked at something like the IPS7091 or BTS 452R Intelligent high side switch?

DenO, you don't need a P-Channel MOSFET for that solar application. There are chips called "High-Side MOSFET Drivers". These basically take an input voltage, like 12V, and make sure that the voltage between gate and source on the MOSFET is about 0V when it should be off, and at least 10V when it should be on. They have an internal circuit that takes the 12V input voltage, and bumps it up to something like 110V if needed. It's hard to explain, but these bad boys are able to drive N-Channel MOSFETs, even when you are connecting a load to the source, instead of the drain. If you are still interested in that design I told you about, I'll get something to you today. I've been a little busy the past couple of days.

Thanks Philldapill...I will Google "High Side MOSFET Drivers".

No need. Here's a chip I use in my high power H-bridges. It works like a champ. It's a 3A peak high side driver with the output capable of generating 120V. That should turn the MOSFET on/off!

    Nice recommendation.

Available from Mouser: SOIC-8 (NO DIP or TO220) so surface mount only makes it trickier for the DIY'rs but hey, small price to pay.

$3.10 or cheaper if you go with a leadless package... but I wouldn't, personally.

Linear Technology makes P-Channel MOSFET drivers, such as the LTC1693-5
