If you sign in, you should see an X to the top right to delete the post. If you delete the post that contains the headline, that should delete the whole thread. Tell me if this works!

It is interesting that he knows how to edit his thread, but just one button over is the delete button. (And the guy has over 500 posts and he's NEVER had to delete a thread? He must be a good writer!) smile.gif

Let's talk about something in the meantime, though.

Well, Microcontrolled, you can delete your own subsequent posts to a thread, but not the original - once someone *else* has posted to it. [EDIT - heater's·faster on the keyboard draw!]· We'd have to Unthread this thread --- and delete our posts backwards until no one's left except mpark.· I suspect Chris will get wind of our shinannigans here and move this to the sandbox (unless we find some propeller things that fit "no subject" ... mpark, you could edit the subject to say "The No Subject Subject" :))

RE·avatar, thanks, it's from·an old Star Trek episode - forgot the title - they go back to the late 1920's to find McCoy. He caused the "end of the world as you know it" for the future crew. McCoy jumped backward in time in a drug-accident induced psychotic state and changed the course of history. In that scene, Spock is using vacuum tubes to interface a tricorder to replay·its captured record of history in an effort to figure out what went wrong.· Kirk comes and an sniffs, saying something like "is something burning?" Spock replies "I'm overloading that circuit there." In true Star Trek dramatic fasion,·as they're playing back the tricorder history, just getting to the answer, the power supplies Fry !· (And judging from the size of the tubes, the voltages are probably > 350 VDC - so the sparks and smoke might be not too far off.

And to avoid copywrite issues: that avatar image is posted soley for educational purposes only, the education being: don't overload your circuits or this might result. :))

thanks Localroger!

I could almost remember that.

The trekkies rate that episode as one of the very best, if I recall. Ellison's writing is superior for certain.

@mpark --- looks like you'd better edit the subject to the "(no subject star trek subject)" --- subjectively speaking, that is :-P

Well now that you mention tubes, or "valves" as we Brits used to call them, I've been pondering recently what would be a suitably bizarre project involving a propeller and a tube or two?

Now, we can easily get 100v or so for a couple 12AX7's using the charge pump ideas floating around the forum recently. A friend of mine has guitar effects amp using exactly that idea. So the first thing that comes to mind is a Prop with tube audio amplification.

Or conversely use a tube to amplify incoming signals for ADC.

But there must be some more imaginative ideas.

Pushed to the extreme I have a VCR97 scope tube from 1940 something that maybe needs a Prop to generate vector graphic displays signals for it. Vector graphic Asteroids anyone?

Yikes ! that brings back haunting memories... used to repair those in the game arcades. The occasional beer bottle through the screen made for an interesting afternoon's work.

> "Valves"

Yes indeed, you Brits have a better handle on English that we Ami's do :)) (Give a Brit and an American *five* words to use or not, the Brit will find a use for all five, the Ami only 2 or 3 :)

I tutored English in Germany for several years on the side - the locals would always ask me to teach them "English English"
--- then again, you chaps do spell things fuunny --- or shall that be funnre? ;-P

Ahh.. It's Star Trek then. I thought that you captured a picture of what happened when you turned on your first homebuilt Prop Demo board tongue.gif
Your line used to be "I'm overloading that circut". I, not watching Star Trek, figured it was a joke and told you that it was funny, and you seem to have changed it right after that. Was it me that made you do this because you then discoverd that non-Star Trek-watchers wouldn't know what you are talking about? I just realized that this might be the case, for anyone who has not seen the show·knows who "Spock" is.

Did someone say something about connecting a Prop to a vaccum tube? You might want to capture a video of this one in case you make a wireing mistake: it would hit YouTube as a big hit. "The Exploding Chip" they would·call it, as it will be the only video of someone accedintly pumping 100V through a Proptongue.gif (and the fact of people like me liking to watch things explode)tongue.gif

They should really have a forum catagory for·Parallax-lovers to just come and talk in. I'm sure that·they will not be detured by the·tube-interface comment and will transfer this post to the sandbox.

I have a pretty big collection of vacuum tubes. I even built a working regenerative receiver from a Type 30, 3 9V batteries, and not much else out of a 30's era article from Boy's Life.

I have a couple of tubes of the type called "magic eye," which was used as a tuning indicator for radio receivers in the tube era. They are visible indicators that go from fully lit to dark based on a 0 to -6 VDC or so bias, which could easily be created with a one transistor charge pump. I've been thinking it would be very cool to hook one of them up and make it into a bandwidth indicator for my internet connection.

localroger: "...a bandwidth indicator for my internet connection."

Now that is just the kind of idea I was searching for. Brilliant. Could also be CPU load indicator for a PC.

I wanted to make another digital clock using Nixie tubes but the are as rear as hens teeth now.

heater -- I also have ten brand new (since 1978) Nixie tubes I got from Radio Shack when they surplussed them for 10 cents each. I even have an original copy of one of the spec sheets for them. I've noticed the clock projects and decided that if I ever do anything with them, it needs to be cooler than a clock.

Yes, Micro, partly ... and just thought it needed a change too·- and then OBC recognized it too. So I guess the change was needed, eh?· I think Spock's line was something like "I'm overloading that circuit."

As a note guys, the little red X for deleting your thread isn't available once the message has been replied to. Often I see someone reply to a message telling the OP to use the little red X to delete their post, but in replying they just prevented them from doing that. A PM would be better in this case. Or the OP can PM a moderator and ask for action to be taken. Take care.

I've got one of those on the back of my car. {highly recommended}
It would be cool to get some that were PClogo size. Of course we
might need to pony up a buck or two for them. Last time I priced
"ORRTECH" labels for my shop they were too expensive to make
it worthwhile for a little PC shop.
