Hi, i just recently ordered the PSC and it is connected to a javelin, i've checked my pin connections and everything, but it fails to respond to any of the test programs nor the version query.

I've also checked the power supply, and it's supplying 5 V througha regulator, but the psc is drawing 200 mA from the Boe board, is there something wrong?

What test program did you use?
Have you connected a servo (using its own power supply)?

    regards peter

If you haven't done so already make sure all the grounds are tied together.

The test programs are from parallax:

    www.parallax.com/Store/Accessories/MotorServoControllers/tabid/160/CategoryID/35/List/0/Level/a/ProductID/376/Default.aspx?SortField=ProductName%2cProductName

and I've tried a servo, but no repsonse still, power supply is the parallax 7.5v 1 A, power to the psc is drawn from the BOE's Vdd, and grounded through there also

Calling commands such as the version/verify have not response from the psc and freeze up the javelin as it waits for a response.

These test programs were written by me
and have been used by others.
Which test program particularly do you use?
    The psc_onepin_test.java or the psc_twopin_test.java?

Note that the psc board has a logic section that you
can power using the BoE Vdd, but the servo itself
should be powered by its own power supply.

The test programs require a servo on channel 0.
Make sure you remove the network jumper
    from the psc board.

Have you connected the psc as specified on page 3
    of the psc manual?

    regards peter

    the psc_one pin test
the servo itself does have it own power supply, a seperate batterpack consisting of 4 AA batteries but the logic supply is routed though Vdd, network jumper has been removed, i've double checked the grounds and they are find

I'm not able to test it for long as the control board heats up withing 10 seconds to 50C(I'm using 4 AA batteries right now on the BOE), red light is on though

    To be clear:

    A) If you only connect the Vdd from BoE and Vss from BoE,
then the red LED comes on but the psc board does not heat up.
(No servo power connected, no servo connected)
Make sure the Vdd and Vss are connected right and make
sure the Vservo jumper on BoE is set to Vdd.
If the board does heat up there must be a short in the logic
    section of the psc board.
If it does not heat up, continue to B)

    B) If you then connect the servo power to the screw terminals
then the board heats up (still no servo connected).
If this is true there must be a short in the servo section of the psc board.
If the board does not heat up continue with C)

    C) Connect a servo. Note the different orientations of connectors X3 and X4.
    The boards heat up.

What does apply to your board, A, B or C?

    regards peter

You should contact Parallax Tech Support.
    Obviously·the psc board is defective.
