Okay, I've got the pinouts, but I have a question, does the sd need power applied to the VDD and VSS pins to work?

You do need the power. I no longer think you need the pull-ups though...

When i apply power to the sd, the power led goes out. The sd is still good. Could it be shorting?

That does sound particularly grave...· Your power LED should not go out when connected to the SD card...

There is a page on SD here. that might help.

I agree, if the LED is going out, there is a serious issue to find.

Once, I did have an SD card that would do that... But, I think it was angry at me for powering it once or twice with +5V...

You might want to put it in your computer in see if it still works...

I did plug it in to my computer, and it still works. I checked and rechecked my hookup pins and wires and soldering. It still shorts when I plug it in. hmmm....
It is an offbrand SD, and I would use another, but i dont want to ruin a $20 SD for my own enjoyment. wink.gif
Anyway, I'll just recheck the connections accoring to the cookbook ,(Very nice material I must say, OBC),
    and try it again.
P.S. For those who are intrested in what I am doing, I am trying to run the Full screen editor.
(yes, I can just comment out the SD card lines that check if it's there, but I want to see it run with the SD.

    Just a surgestion

if the prop bd is ok until the SD is pluged in, are all your SD VDD and VSSs te right way around?

There are two VSS pins and one VDD, as far as I can remember, is there a combo where the supplies are shorting throgh the cards connections??
