Circular polarization works the same as linear polarization (with the obvious exception of the difference in polarization, allowing you to tilt your head without ghosting). I plan on getting circular polarizers to replace my linear polarizers on my dual projection setup. But I assume you're talking about the new theater setup, which is a whole new system... it utilizes circular polarization, along with a projector and a switching polarizer. It's basically combining the shutter glasses method of interleaving left/right eye frames with the polarized lenses to create a polarized shutter, which only requires passive polarized glasses rather than active shutter glasses.

I've seen polarized LCD monitors (iZ3D and Zalman), and I believe there's some TV manufacturers doing something similar. I think some DLP TVs (120Hz) can do 3D, but AFAIK it's for shutter glasses. It's my understanding that basically the timing is deterministic, so shutter glasses can work with them, similar to CRTs, but unlike LCDs and Plasmas, which update at random intervals (except the new 120Hz ones made for this).

If anyone wants to experiment with some of the active 3D glasses I have a set that I no longer need. They are made by ELSA and depending upon the I/R signal from the transmitter it is supposed to change the glasses so you see the picture in 3D. The glasses have an I/R receiver and small batteries inside. It has a special VGA adapter cable where the I/R transmitter connects. This may make a great start for a pretty cool propeller project. If you think you could use the set just send me a PM. If you are in the US then $12 should cover the set as pictured including shipping.
