Power Protection Question

I need help with a custom circuit I built for the SpeakJet. I want to power the board using·regulated 5v from another circuit board. My concern is potential voltage spikes when connecting/disconnecting my custom board from the supply board. Right now I have the below configuration.
Will this work for simple power protection? What value should I use for the cap and resistor?
Any help is appreciated.
