Did my Hydra break my mouse and keyboard and burn itself out?

I have a Hydra that I use for Game Programming as well as for any graphics function using a keyboard, mouse, or NES. Recently however my keyboard and mouse that were plugged into my Hydra suddenly stopped working; along with the keyboard and mouse jacks!! I plugged the keyboard and mouse from my computor into my Hydra and it didn't work; and I plugged my keyboard and mouse from my Hydra into my computer and it didn't work! The keyboard dosn't even light up, and the mouse lights up but dosn't register!!! I was using a·standard 12V·power supply plugged into a surge protector, but something tells me that this is caused by the power. Can someone from Parallax (or anybody that might have a clue what it is, for that matter) help me out on this? sad.gifconfused.gifskull.gif

    Hi microcontrolled.

You must first test if You not melted Yours 5V regulator.
Drive it from 12V power can give it to high heat.

Nothing is impossible, there are only different degrees of difficulty.
For every stupid question there is at least one intelligent answer.
    Don't guess - ask instead.
If you don't ask you won't know.
If your gonna construct something, make it·as simple as·possible yet as versatile as posible.

The 5V rgulator did get hot enough to give someone a burn at the time the keyboard and mouse stopped working, do you think that i should try to replace the regulator myself? that seemes like a good answer; exept for the fact that the NES Controller still works.

The NES ports only use 3.3V, mouse and keyboard are the only 5V clients IIRC. So that would make sense.

I'd use your multimeter to test the board under power with no load. Make sure that all the voltages are what they're supposed to be. If you don't have a multimeter, then you need one. It's probably the most important electronics tool that you'll ever have.

I do have a multimeter. I will test the connections. For some reason I thought the NES controllers ran off 5V, but the solution seems obvious now.
