Cool new sensor
Hey All
Was just checking out the new sensor.
TSL1401 Linescan Imaging Sensor Daughterboard
Looks like this is essentially a minuature SICK laser rangefinder.
Which is realy cool.
Can someone confirm this, are there any major drawback when trying to use this like a small SICK.

Yes, there are drawbacks: it's not a laser range finder! It's a camera.

The TSL1401-DB is not a laser rangefinder, in the sense that it measures the time a pulse of light takes to reflect from its target; and it does not come with a laser. However, one could easily add a laser line generator to it (with the line oriented perpendicular to the field of view) to measure the distance to an object that is nearby. Here's an illustration of the principle:
This technique could be used to measure the heights of boxes on a conveyor, for example, or the thicknesses of boards.
