what would i need to do to make the attatched circuit work on 24 volts instead of 12?
would i just need to swap out the 1k resister with a different one?

The first thing to do would be to attach it.

As long as the mosfet can handle the voltage and current going from 1K to 2K should be all you need to change. Keep in mind the power dissipated by the resistor will double when the mosfet is off (0.288W vs 0.144W). Use a 1/2 watt resistor.

PS - I forget attachments so often I could not resist. Sorry about that.
