The first unit has just rolled off the assembly line and appears to work perfectly!

I'll start selling them soon.

I've put up a web page for it here:
http://www.rayslogic.com/Propeller/Products/Products.htm

Here's what it looks like (I've added a called out layout):

BADHABIT: I'm hoping to sell them for $95. I think this is much less than similar products.
Bean: The schematic is not currently in presentable format! I'll work on that though...

If that LCD can be easily interfaced in code then I might get one of these to build a music player. Always wanted to replace my old 2nd Gen Nano (the only one that doesn't support linux :( ).

The LCD is easy to interface.· There are two basic drivers to choose from, the graphical driver and the tile driver:

The graphical driver does things like lines, circles, bitmaps, text, etc., on a pixel addressible basis in 18-bit color.· This is the driver used by the serial command interface app that the PSM will be pre-programmed with.

The tile driver is as easy to use as TV.SPIN or VGA.SPIN.· The display basically pretends to be either a TV or a VGA monitor.· I've even run the "Graphics_Demo" with just a couple changes.· I will include something like TV_Text.SPIN to make it even easier...

    Ray,

Really nice. You've certainly packed a lot on there.

Can I ask what the width of the board is?

    tubular

edit: It would be a bargain at that price too. Similar (non Prop) boards are several hundred and only diff is touch screen and maybe ethernet

The board is 3.8" x 2.5" and the four mounting holes are 3.0" x 2.0"

The board is the same as required for ExpressPCB's $61 miniboard service.· I'm going to provide a layout with the headers so people can make their own accessory boards if they want.· I'm doing my own accessory board right now that will provide rechargeable battery power, RCA video jack, keyboard jack, mouse jack, real time clock, and (hopefully) a servo header (we'll see if I can provide enough current).· It will just attach to the back of the PSM with 10-pin, 3-pin, and 4-pin headers...· Of course, this uses up most of the free pins...

That price may just have to be an introductory price.· I'll have to add something later for distribution costs...· I'm also planning on selling a few even cheaper at the West Coast expo!

How hard would it be to add or change to a touch screen version?

Even if it can't I will prob have to get these instead of Tube's PropPLC

    BH skull.gif

P.S. Will the accelerometer work if the rig is in a vertical position?

It may be possible to add a touchscreen, I'll have to look into that.· If many people request it, I could do another version that adds a touchscreen in place of the accelerometer...

The accelerometer works in any orientation. The part# is MMA7260QT.· Here's the datasheet:

Not yet... I'm working on it. I don't want to post it until it is in a reasonably usable state... try FemtoBasic until Largos is available.

I think that this is a very cool device, but for the price (which is great for the product it is) I would rather buy a touchscreen version.

microcontrolled: Out of curiosity (or maybe Market Research), to get the touchscreen would you rather drop the accelerometer or pay $20 more?

Yes, both would be good options.
I think that you should put an accelerometer socket on the touchscreen version so those who needed it could buy it and put it in themselfs.

Think I can add a touchscreen for $15 and leave the accelerometer...··Will look into that soon.· Will probably have to give up a few of the 8 uncommitted pins to make it happen.

Seems like a good idea to put some epoxy on the LCD connector to make it look better and hold it in place.· I need to work on the "make it look better" part though, the epoxy was a little less viscous than I thought...

Ray, This looks like a great single board solution for a variety of projects. With touch screen, could be good for mobile GPS logging, GOE Caching, etc.

Question: what size EEPROM on board for Prop?

    Thanks,
    Jim

The EEPROM is just 32kB. But, you can use an SD card for datalogging...· (You can also add more EEPROMS using the I2C header)

Also, the accelerometer can be used to give a kind of mouse input.· You can move a cursor just by tilting the display one way or another...· That and the pushbutton can let you create a UI that doesn't require a touchscreen or a mouse...

I wanted to know if there was any EEPROM on board since it was not mentioned in any specs. Yes, SD is fine for logging. I use a 2GB uSD on a Proto Board with Tim's 3" NTSC LCD for GPS logging right now, and it works well in·most of·my situations, but it is too fat ( ie deep) for a current project. Your single board solution looks like a good fit.

In·my current project, the display will be mounted·in a dash. I don't think I can hold the board·in one hand while driving·a hovervcraft at 50 MPH on water·tongue.gif· I would like to use a touch screen at the beginning of a race to·initiate the start of a logging session. I don't think any inputs could·be made when underway because·of the small screen input area when you are bouncing around. Maybe just the pushbutton for now to start and stop logging will be fine.

When will they be ready to ship? Can I have one yesterday?·tongue.gif
    Jim
