How to hook-up / control a dual motor setup

Hi,

My question is how to hook-up a 2 motor configuration. Basically, the idea is to use 2 motors simultaneously, connected to one gearbox, kind of like they do with Battle Bots. Banebots.com (and probably many others) sell these dual motor gearboxes, like the ones here: banebots.com/c/P80A-nnnn-0015. The goal is to have 2 motors controlling one shaft (for increased power, torque, less heat, etc...)

Question is what is the proper way to connect both motors to one single H-bridge controller (like the HB-25 from Parallax) - I assume putting the wires together in parallel is a really bad idea?

Thanks.

Putting two motors on one shaft is a bad idea since they will never be exactly equal and one will be fighting the other. If you need more power get a more powerful motor.

Two weeks ago I saw three Bismark model battleships all 1/144 scale running dual motors geared to a single shaft. Once they were mounted and connected properly they had no problems. They got their gearboxes here: http://www.battlersconnection.com/html/gearboxes.html . These boxes are lighter duty since we typically use 1/8 " prop shafts.
