Disappearing Folders in IDE

I am running version 1.2.5 of the IDE and it has been very stable except for one thing.

When looking at the Directory Tree pane (second from the top on the left) I always see under "Propeller Tool v1.2.3" the "Examples" folder as expected.

As a sub-directory to "Propeller Tool v1.2.3" I have created 3 other folders to hold some of the .SPIN files on my 3 current projects. These hold some SPIN files that would be totally unique to the given project and not something I want in the Examples or Library sub-directories. (I prefer to only keep unedited objects/spin files in the Library)

If however, I have not opened one of the folders for some time (have not determined the actual time) it disappears and cannot be made to reappear unless I close the IDE, go to "MyComputer" and double click on one of the SPIN files in the missing folder, then close the IDE and relaunch the IDE by clicking on its icon.

Refresh does not do anything to resolve this.

Is there any other way to make the IDE always display all the folders under "Propeller Tool v1.2.3" without clicking my heels 3 times and saying there is no micro like Parallax? (which of course is a true statement)

It might be a Vista issue... Do you have Vista?

Vista doesn't like people poking around in Program Files folders...

I copied the entire Program Files (x86)\Parallax\ folder to my working folder· and access it from there...

No, this I Windows XP Pro. Another note, if I create a new folder and just place a SPIN file in it, the folder will not appear in the IDE unless I first open it up by using "My Computer" and double clicking on the SPIN file letting the IDE open then close it. Only then will it appear the next time I open up the IDE in the normal fashion.

Obviously not a huge issue but annoying when a folder just goes missing after a few days on non-use.

BST has none of those problems. And it also works in GNU/Linux and Mac OSX besides winblows. And supports conditional compilation, constant folding, listing output and much more!.

You can find it here: http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php?p=755835

Ale, your post might have pushed me to try Linux.

I have another PC a Dell with their WONDERFUL propriatary RAM (256 meg) that used to work fine until XP service pack 3 loaded. Now it takes up to 10 minutes before the PC is functional. I can purchase another PC for less money than a RAM upgrade to 1 GB for this PC.

I have tried, on that same PC, Puppy Linux (only 88 meg) and that works fine AND FAST. It runs completely in RAM so if I could somehow create a install of the Prop stuff on the CD I could have a dedicated PC for Prop work that viruses could try to disrupt but as the OS is on the CD they would be killed at power down.

My only problem with Linux/Puppy Linux is that a bunch of geeks used meaningless terms to do important functions and I have yet to get the OS to re-establish network communications are re-boot. I always have to do than manually.

Getting back to the topic at hand, does anyone know if the latest IDE has the same issue with folders disappearing?

Yes it does, just the same.
I took Ale's advice and set up BST for windoze, works like a charm, thanks Ale.
