DIY ultrasonic sensor or assemble 400ST/RT to BS2 ??

Hello All
is it posible to mount a simple ultrasonic transducer & receiver
to BS2 instead of the Ping sensor ?
I have googled for solutions and I still can't get it clear enough.
But as I understand I need something to generate the high frequency signal.
So can this realy be done with the same BS2 instead of the pic (or other) mounted
in the Ping sensor
- So in BS2 I'd put the signal on O pin & the echo on the I pin ( ?)
my main parts :
Basic stamp 2
400ST tranducer
400Rt receiver
here are a couple of photos of similar sensors
SE 400ST 460
SE 400RT 460

I usualy dont find parts in my country :)
Thanks

thanks for the answer, that whas a great help!
But I think it will be much simpler fore me to make it with the IR photo diodes,
(I all ready found some tutor's on that) as I'm looking for a cheep version.
Ennyway, I'm willing to make some kynd of distance sensor that
generates a mooving point of the surface sensed. So I can generate a
surface line - In short, it will have to be a surface scanner, that draws somekynd of surface line scope, on my pc screen.
Now I'm trying to debug "BS2" in "Pure data" software, http://puredata.info
so I can genearte the graphics.
