Cobalt? There go magnets for high-power, light weight speakers.

2,2'(ethylenedioxy)diethyl diacrylate; triethylene glycol diacrylate?!?!?!? MMMmmmmmm...tastes like chicken!

When will it end? Only when we've been driven back to a purely agrarian existence. Then I'm sure someone will gripe about the type of wood used for the horse drawn plows. Right before someone else gripes about using horses to pull plows...

My personal favorite has always been "Those who can, do. Those who can't, supervise.

It ends sort-of where the warnings labels for cancer in California ends. Where every product on the shelf carries the same dire warning and any benefit, were there ever one to begin with, is long since lost. Meanwhile we suffer ever more expensive replacement materials and declining performance of those materials and politicals find the new boogy-man to ride another few years to the polls as they protect you from harm.

Doesn't NASA still specify old school, outlaw LEAD solder for space projects? If it's good enough for NASA...

Because the "Outlaw" solder actually works. In my experiance, lead free is too prone to cold solder joints, and I assume that under such massive temperature changes and vibration, they would not want any more rockets to fall apart and explode.

this is what happens when we let the EU and hippys run stuff.

I have VERY strong feelings against RoHS .

Don't you dare drink out of a crystal goblet or you will grow a third arm out of your forehead.

(Oh, and the Propeller ASC is fortified with 8 vitamins and Iron)

I used to have a habit of chewing on pellets when I would shoot my pellet gun, I guess that may explain a thing or two...

I had to chew the pellets, BB's were too hard on the teeth...

Face it, it is a nasty Economic Trade Barrier and that is all it is. Somebody should challenge the EU on this kind of stuff. WTO where are you?

But at least this time around, everyone will not try to set up parallel inventories for the EU. That really wasted a lot of time and money.

Maybe somebody should push back by looking into the formaldehyde and other chemicals in the glue in IKEA furniture.

At least you guys don't have to worry about melamine in milk or ethylene glycol in toothpaste. Asia is an adventure.

Interesting and troublesome this RoHS issue. Our firm has been supplying industrial contol systems for over 40 years, and many of them are still operating in the field after 25 years. Some of the applications are oil/gas related, and the environments have traces of airborne chemicals like H2S ("rotten egg smell") that are associated with that industry. We never had much in the way of problems with this...... until the last couple of years. Turns out (not sure who figured this out) that it seems related to computer equipment manufactured under RoHS guidelines. Now the computers need to be changed out every 6 months, and reliabilirty is totally shot. The equipment that we ourselves manufacture under the old lead process comes though unscathed.

So instead of reducing the amount of "electronic waste", these regulations are increasing it!

Go figure. I'm not sure what these EU donkeys are up to, but like Loopy, I too believe it is trade-barrier motivated.

    Cheers,

    Peter (pjv)
