Question regarding 20pin edge connector: Used in Hydra

I bought some 20pin edge connectors from Digikey which are
labeled very strangely. (See red letters/numbers in picture)

Can someone confirm that 11 - 20 are correct in my image?

(Image is different connection-wise from what I purchased, but at
least they were kind enough to label 1-10.)

It makes the most sense, but I can't seem to verify it. {Google fails me}

Thanks!
OBC

OBC,

try this thread, Mik Green gives a perfect description of the pinouts....
http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php?p=806772
and there is also a picture in my Hybrid manual on page 9 here....
www.propgfx.co.uk/Hybrid/Docs/Hybrid_Development_System_Manual.pdf

Basically 11-20 are correct but 1-10 are reversed

All the pins are straight from the top to the bottom so it would depend on the card you plugged into it what was on each pin. For example if the pins wrapped around on the card they would be wrapped on the connector.

Between Mike's description and that diagram in the Hybrid manual
I'm set to start soldering.

Edit: Condensed all the information I have so far into a single
page I could print for use on the bench. Added to top thread.

Thanks guys!

Funny you should ask this Jeff, as you saw in the other thread I was asking too. For over a year now I have wanted to design a PCB adapter that could be used in a bread board or a protoboard so anyone could use the Hydra cards. I finally did the design a week or so ago and the PCBs are arriving next week. I need to get a couple parts from Digikey and put the kits together.

I was thinking everyone should have easy access to use the Hydra Expansion cards.

@Tim,

<SMITHERS>Eeeexccellllent!</SMITHERS>

I've been pondering the easiest way to make a Protoboard connection over the last week. The connectors I bought from Digikey fit perfectly, but even with the 7 I/O lines dropped into place, there are still too many other required lines to make a smooth connection. (As compaired to the SpinStudio connection which only required power/gnd after the connector was fitted.)

I think I'll wait for your PCB's.. Let us know when they are for sale.

I have thought about making a SpinStudio module for the Hydra connector, but I never did for a couple of reasons
• I really didn't want to step on Andre's toes. One thing that sticks out in my mind. When Jeff made the Protoboard cookbook, it contained information on making your own "Hydra-net" connector. There was a disclaimer, in Bold Red type, that read "Although published by permission in this document, this design is Copyrighted." This lead me to believe that another commercial product incorporating as major a part of the Hydra design as this connector is, would not be tolerated.
• The necessary IO pin to mimic all functions would necessitate connection to 3 out of the 4 SpinStudio sockets. I'd either have to make it a full shield like my Game Stacker add-on board, or the product would be relatively useless with only 1 open Socket.
• The feature that switches to the expansion card EEPROM when one is present could never work as it does on a real Hydra. This isn't a show stopper, but you loose some functionality.

Before I started documenting this project, I sent an email to Andre
about reproducing the Hydra port part of the schematic and received
a very positive permission to do so. I don't want to step on Andre's toes
either, but I do think that many of us haven't given his products a fair
trial because of that connection. Right now the options are to buy a Hyrda
or Hybrid, or make the connections yourself.

I have all the stuff to make up a Protoboard connection, but it just doesn't
look as slick with all those wires going 8 different directions.

Most of the time I'll do something and apologize later if it gets me into trouble,
with the Hydra connections I thought it would be wise to ask first, and I've
found Andre very accommodating to the idea of opening up access to his
design ideas. I figure they can only say "no" :)
