Great day at Parallax

Just came back from another awesome day at Parallax- I love my job/hobby!
Lots of great product coming out soon. David and team are making great progress on the PropScope. Simple, sexy case with just 2 bnc analog inputs, usb for data/power, and an expansion connector for function generator/logic analyzer clips/external trigger/video- or anything else. Coupled with a simple to use but full featured PC interface. This is how I'll introduce my kids to electronics...
Thanks Parallax!
Hanno

Great news! PropScope sounds like a "must have" piece of equipment for the hobbiest workbench.

Not to sound too much like a clich

Clearly your daughter is on the path to success. She's already shown
tremendous skill in choosing a father.

Ok, time to brag about our daughters...
I volunteer every now and then at my daughter's Kindergarten in New Zealand- see here for a writeup of the day Robby the Red (balancing) Robot went to Kindergarten. About 6 months ago I taught the 4 and 5 year olds about numbers- including the more interesting ones... A couple weeks ago my daughter and her friend were chattering a bit too much while I was driving so I asked them to play the "I know a bigger number game". After my daughter spent a bit too much time thinking, I asked her what number she was thinking about. She told me it started with the letter "i" and looked like this.... Since I was driving and couldn't see, I asked her to describe the number. She told me it looked like a sleeping number 8- and then came up with the name: infinity! I'm sure the only time she's ever heard that number was when I taught it- exactly 1 time 6 months ago- she's like a sponge! She then continued talking about a yummy circle number: pi....

I hope the software is not winblows-only. Or at least full comm specs exist so one of the already written Scope frontends can be used. Now that I remember it will use PropView :-(

Edit: speaking of new products... any news on the 64 IOs-laden propeller ?

Forget the entire windows thing. All we need is some smart person to figure out how to run all the software on another prop jumpin.gif no computer at all :)

Although I use Windows exclusively, I too hope that the comm specs will be fully documented so we can write our own front-end for the PropScope.

I've asked several times thus far.. I gave up and bought a Textronix scope.. It has GPIB and I can access that from Linux..

The PropScope's communication protocol will be openly available when it ships. That said, ViewPort/PropScope is written in .NET and I've had some success running it natively on OSX and Linux with Mono.NET Missing right now is a cross-platform propellent.dll If the market really warrants it I'll consider porting. I have worked at companies that port their products to many platforms so I'm highly reluctant of doing this. It's not much of an issue these days- ViewPort has been running on Linux/Mac under emulation for years now...
I'm just as much a fan of Microsoft products as you guys :)

    Hi Hanno,

Count me in for wanting the Linux port smile.gif

My main machine is running Ubuntu, and I'd love it if ViewPort ran on it as I really really like ViewPort - it has saved me a ton of time debugging when working with XMM and flash!
