Vibration Reduction

I needed to reduce some vibration from a motor/gearbox that was too noise once it was attached to a mounting structure. A trip to Luky's hardware in Burbank where they have tons of surplus stuff led me to some Lord Manufacturing vibration control plates, which are a steel plate with a rubber center section that actually mounts to your gadget. So after making a Delrin plate to hold the rubber shock absorbers (and motor), I made some aluminum couplers that joined each other by a rubber hydraulic hose, so there is some flex in the hose and less vibration/noise transfer. It made a big difference in the noise levels from the motor and gears. Also, there is some inherent play in the transfer which suits the application nicely, just change out the rubber hose to a different rigidity for less play.

Though maybe someone might have some interest in reducing noise on a project so here are some pics.

I put rubber mounts on my Taig lathe mounting plate, using aluminium collars machined on the lathe, although the motor already had rubber mounts. They removed nearly all the vibration.
