PIR Sensor Capabilities

Hello,

Can anyone confirm if the PIR sensor would be a good choice for detecting birds landing on an object (obviously within 20 feet of the sensor) outside during the day? I'm hoping to use one with a propeller in my motion detection circuit.

Can you recommend anything other than the PIR for outdoor detection that will easily interface with the propeller?

A break beam solution would probably be the most effective, or a pad that is triggered by weight.

Before PIR detectors were invented small Doppler radar units used to be used as motion detectors for intruder alarms. One of those would be ideal, if you can find one. A friend of mine still uses one in his garage.
