Long Range Data Transmission with the BS2

I am creating a project for high school students and need some help as far as long range communications. The goal is to be able to communicate with a high altitude weather balloon using a bs2 to received data such as sensors and from a gps. Any help would be appreciated.

Sincerely,

Andy

How long are you talking and would the balloon be on a tether at all?

Amateur Radio opperators use APRS to do this kind of thing. It would mean that you become a Ham but the benifits would be that as long as they balloon had power you would be able to track it. To become a Ham you will need to take two tests but they are a few books that have all the needed info including answers to the questions. Check it out and if you have any question just ask.

To become an amateur radio operator (Technician class), you only need to take one test. As for the wireless, these might work for you: http://www.digi.com/products/wireless/long-range-multipoint/xtend-module.jsp
