hello All,

I'm looking to get an O'scope. I once received an E-mail notice from Marlin P. Jones & Assoc. about there monthly sale and they listed a "Instek 17275 TE" scope for $299.99 sale price. Does anyone know about this company "OWON" that makes "Instek" product??? The regular price on this unit is just over $500. I did find a comment on the Web. about someones experience an it was not good. So I wanted to know if anyone here uses there Equipment.

I wanted to spend $500 to $800
thanks for any feedback

Ypu should be able to get a second-hand Tektronix digital scope for that sort of money. It would be a much better buy.

    Thanks Leon,

I looked on Ebay and man!!! new and used for less then what I was expecting. Just came from Fry's and they were over $800. for 60 mhz/ 1gs/ 2 chan. I used Tektronixs years ago at a mid size company and I know they have a good Rep. and good product. Lots of different units on Ebay with those features mentioned earlier for less then 400 and if you buy now no shipping fees(from Hong Kong), any thoughts, I've never purchased from Ebay before.

    thanks again

    UP-DATE on O'Scopes,

There are sooooo many O'Scopes on E-Bay that it took hours just to get thru. half of them(OLD/NEW/BIG/SMALL). Names that I have never heard of to the usual. (Rigol,Kilter, Welec, Owon, Agilent, Tektronic) to name a few. My thoughts were as follows...What do ya'll think???

    1) 100mhz
    2) 500mhz per chan. sample
    3) 2 chn. (prefer. 4)
    4) Color LCD 640 x 480
    5) Newer smaller units

hope to find one soon....Right Price/ Right Features /Right Size/ oh well back to E-Bay

    just thoughts take care

    hmlittle59,

I've bought a lot of stuff on ebay and I would say that 97% of my transactions have been quite good. When you look for a seller, check out their positive rating, how many things they have sold and how long they have been selling. I don't think I would buy from somebody who has only sold a few things or just started selling. Another great tool is to use ebay's "Refine Search" features that are usually located on the left of the screen. If you want, after typing in your original search term (oscilloscope) you could scroll down and click on Distance. You could enter your zip code and then enter your preference for "within so many miles" or whatever it says. If you're not in a big hurry, you could wait around until a good buy shows up within driving distance, perhaps even ask the seller if you could stop by and check things out. You would even save on shipping charges, then, and reduce the likelihood of the UPS man bowling your delivery down a flight of stairs. If you're new to ebay, I would also suggest getting a PayPal account, as that will provide you a little more protection from scammers, bad dealers, etc.

    hope that helps,
    Mark

    thanks electricAye,

Account set up, I'll try the refine search. Wrote down some "Item" # and flagged a couple to see how it works.

    thanks again

Having just picked up a lovely Tek 2440M on Ebay for far less than any of the cheap-o 100Mhz Chinese cro's or USB junk I'd have to second anyone who suggests picking up some second hand real test gear..

It did take 8 days to get it shipped across the world, and I paid an additional 50% of the purchase price in shipping, but the total was still less than 70% of the price of the Chinese 100Mhz dual trace cro's on E-bay or in the local market.

"VOOM"?!? Mate, this bird wouldn't "voom" if you put four million volts through it! 'E's bleedin' demised!
