Haydon stepper motors

Howdy,

I have a stepper motor that I picked up and it says the following:

Haydon Switch and Instruments, Inc.
35402 5vdc 2.5w 15deg. rev.
Stepper Motor
Other markings on one side 8432 lot number??
Four wires: Blue,Green, Red, Black

I cannot find a data sheet on this stepper. Haydon representatives say that they
no longer have any information. Google search does not produce anything.

Anybody have a data sheet, wire diagram or any information??

Thanks.

You should be able to work out the connections with a DVM, by measuring the resistances between the wires. The resistances will give you some idea of the voltage requirement, also. I've done that before now, with a stepper motor for which I didn't have any data.

    Leon,

The label evidently already tells that. With the voltage and wattage, we can figure the amperage, but we can not figure the holding or moving torque.

    5 vdc at 2.5 watts:

The windings should be about 10 ohms each.

Which would require 1/2 amp per winding, so by their label (which may not be accurate) you will need at least 2 amps to drive the stepper. I find your better off doubling that amount. You do not want the stepper to pull your voltage down and sink your power supply.

I searched and the stepper is probably a 4 wire bipolar stepper motor. They work a little different than a unipolar.

Bipolars have two coils which pulse from positive to negative, like below:

Check it out, this will help explain how it works.

that url didn't help much, but the next one will
