Communication question

I'm new to the basic stamp, and would like to know if its possible for two stamps to communicate over a single twisted pair cable. (serial 1553 bus) They will be each be controlling separate items, but need to share their current status. The update rate doesn't need to be fast, just ongoing at a periodic rate. (every second or two)

There's a pair of Nuts and Volts Columns that discusses a Stamp network and includes sample code. Go to the main Parallax webpage and click on the Resources tab. You'll see a link to the Nuts and Volts Columns index. I don't recall the numbers of the columns, but it's pretty obvious which pair is about Stamp networking.
