How far can serial data be transmitted through a CAT5e cable? The cable is in between the BS2 and the RFID's SOUT pin. It does not seem to be transmitting. If it can travel far, then obviously my connections are wrong.

The Sin and Sout can go about 15 feet.

For longer runs of 50-100 ft you would need to convert from TTL to RS-232 with a MAX232 chip like this one:

From there you can go hard wired or wireless with this:

Wireless range can be significantly higher than wired Up to 500Ft outdoors and around 150ft indoors.
