Printer control through the BOE
I want to use a BSII to control the line feed and form feed functions of a printer based on feedback from optical sensors mounted near the roller drum. I am trying to read the presence or absence of marks placed on paper with a photodiode emitter and detector pair. I need the printer to form feed the inserted paper until it senses a "mark". Then it will line feed until it senses the second mark and at that point I want another series of emitter detector pairs to sense which choice was marked then line feed again. This process will continue until 25 or so marks have been "read". I want to read the responses marked on the paper and send them to the debug screen.
I do not need anything printed. I don't even care if the printhead is intact. I just need the feed functions of the printer. I am trying to construct a test grading machine without having to spend $1200.00 for one. I can use an old dot matrix printer if necessary.
I am also wondering if I could use the BSII in conjunction with a BASIC program that would control printer function. I would need some way for the two programs to communicate. Any advice would be appreciated.
