-=SOLVED=- Parallax Font Not Readable: Assistance Needed

Hi All,

I just installed the latest version of Propeller Tools on an XP Pro Notebook. The Parallax font does not display properly: it looks like graffitis and garbled data. I tested the font in Word and it is the same problem. So it's not from the software (which work properly on my desktop PC). Even though I couldn't read anything, I transfer the program on a propeller and it works. So only the display of the font appears to be an issue.

Does anybody have an idea of what the problem could be? I need to go on a business trip tomorrow with a working propeller environment to a client. I am getting into a bit of high stress mode...

Any help in resolving this issue would be kindly appreciated.

Solution:
I have·solved this issue by running the Microsoft Update website. No other approach worked. The way UniCode is handled in XP was obviously the cause of the problem, not the Parallax software.

Are the other XP apps displaying properly?

If so, blow away the Prop envirenment using the de-installer - don't just delete directories.

Then re-install. Report any progress.

Search for parallax true type font and download and install it by dragging it into the font directory in the control panel.

Sometimes the font can't be installed which causes this to happen.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, it does display properly on my XP Pro desktop. I've copied the Parallax font from the desktop to the notebook, reinstalled, but there's no change. Using control panel, I've opened the font and it is still garbled. It's almost like a Unicode problem or something like that (if it makes any sense!).

Are you doing a fresh install using the Microsoft installer? You can't just copy directories.

Thanks for the link.

1. I've downloaded parallaxfont.zip, followed instructions, still does not work.

2. contrary to issues reported in the thread, I cannot display the font properly anywhere! Not in Word, not in notepad, not in IDE, etc.

3. yes, its a fresh install, each time.

4. yes, I do have God's rights on the portable.

5. I attempted to reach Parallax by phone but you can only leave a message in a general voicebox...

6. I will try deleteing everything related to Propeller Tools including fonts and re-install (for the thrid time).

Hi all,

I have finally resolved my Parallax font problem: I simply ran Microsoft Update and, voila!, the font is now intelligible. It appears that MS Update repairs/adds whatever was missing in the OS.

p.s.: How do you add 'SOLVED' into the original title of this thread, like I've seen done by others before? I've been looking for it without success.

@JMH: Thanks for your good wishes. I am going to finish my code... while flying! My pcb is going to be connected to my notebook and powered via USB. GUI software and firmware should be completed at 40000 feet. It's a long flight but working on the propeller is really fun. BTW, regarding flying with an unmounted pcb: 'no officer, it's not a bomb! its my bread-and-butter prototype to be shown to my client'. International airport security baggage checking is going to be an interesting experience today. I'll either report back on this forum next week... or after 10 years in jail! PPL2 should be out by then

I do it all the time. My test kit consists of a Propeller Proto board with all sorts of evil looking stuff strapped to it, a prop plug and my laptop. I've only ever been questioned once and I just told them it was electronics for a widget I was developing. No further questions your honour. Mine is stored in a small plastic lunch box with the lid held on with PVC tape. Even *I* think it looks sinister..

Provided the nut strapped in next to you keeps his gob shut, you can get an *awful* lot of code written at 40,000 feet (though I usually find by the time you reach 40,000 the first couple of scotches have kicked in and the code you write might need a bit of extra debugging later)
