Incompatible firmware revision ($F).

Hello friends.

Decided to get my new Javelin Stamp Demo Board up and going today. Unfortunately I can't figure out how to get it communicating with the Javelin stamp that came with it.

The error as noted in the title is Incompatible firmware revision ($F).

I have tried the current official release 2.0.3 and the previous release 2.0.1 to no avail.

Do I have a hardware issue or is there a more current release than 2.0.3 of the IDE?

My setup is:
Microsoft Windows XP - latest updates and service packs -
USB adapter: keyspan USA-19hs
Machine: 8-core Intel Xeon 3.2 GHz, 18GB Ram (Mac Pro Boot Camp on dedicated drive)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

If your usb adapter has a latency setting (see your virtual comport properties)
    set this to minimum.
And you can always try the IDE beta (see sticky thread).

    Thanks Peter -

I don't see latency settings and I've changed other settings such as speed and FIFO buffer but to no avail.

Well - I reinstalled the USB adapter driver - still same error. I tried every Parallax board I have to no avail: same results on 6 different BOE serial, rev C boards, my PDB rev B on both serial and USB connections, my BOE-usb rev B, and my Parallax Digital Trainer board. All of the serial connections gave the same results and the USB connections didn't even find the Javelin Stamp at all to even report the firmware incompatibility.

I'm starting to wish I hadn't spent the $250 on the Javelin Stamp starter kit now. :(

It is a timing issue with your usb adapter.

Are you sure there is no latency setting? Have you checked
the keyspan website for FAQ etc. ?
Do you have a normal serial port on your PC that you can use?
Do you have a Parallax usb adapter (with FTDI chipset),
these are guarenteed to work with parallax products.
Do you run some kind of HotSync software that may interfere
    with your ports?

You mention you have some BOE usb boards.
    Have you read this thread:
    http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php?p=656527
What it comes down to is to place a 1k resistor between pin2
and pin4 of the DIP24 socket.

Contact Parallax support if all of the above does not lead to resolving
    the problem.

    regards peter

Thanks for the help Peter! I was unable to change latency settings on the Keyspan adapter so I started digging through my old adapters and found a curious little blue box with a short dongle - vaguely similar to what I remember the Parallax USB adapter used to look like. :)

Oddly enough, it didn't work. But I noticed that JIDE only looks at com4 for some reason, so I deleted the other com ports, reinstalled the FTDI drivers and what do you know? It works!

    I'm cooking with grease now!!!

    Thanks again for the help.
