RFID Card Reader frequencies supported?

Does the RFID Card Reader only read the 125kHz frequency or will it read close frequencies (i.e. 134 kHz). I'm interested in doing a project that reads pet microchips·http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microchip_implant_(animal)··and am looking for a reader to support that.

The 125 Khz RFID standard ranges from 125 to 134.2 Khz - so, it might work. Keep in mind though, there are many different tag manufacturers and the structure of the tag's memory and the communication protocol used by these pet-implants will likely be different from the typical tag. There may also be encryption on the tags and that wouldn't be supported by the readers offered by Parallax.

If you can provide the details of a specific make of tag that you want to read, then we'd probably be able to figure out if it works. But, as it stands, you'd just have to test it for yourself and see what happens. :)

So I bought a USB reader (item code 28340) and tried it with a couple of the test chips (item codes 28141 & 28161) and the software from the forums http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php?p=727719·and was able to get it to read them correctly.·

Unfortunately when I tried it with a couple pet id chips I had it didn't work. The chips are HomeAgain (http://public.homeagain.com/index.html) which I believer are supposed to be 125kHz

I was really hoping this would work, does anyone have any ideas on how I might be able to get this to work?

    Thanks,
    Stephen

There aren't really any options but to get a reader that reads the frequency that you want. The reader is not susceptible to hacking.

Bummer, In the documentation of the reader, it mentioned 125kHz, so I thought it might support it. Does anyone know of a reader that would support it?

    Hello,

Frequency isn't the only important factor in reading the tags. Different tags support different protocols for the information they contain/send out. Our Reader only supports the EM410x protocol. So if your pet tags do not, you would not be able to use them. Take care.
