Need help deciphering serial interface specs for the following sensor...

Howdy,

I'm trying to interface an AustriaMicroSystems AS5040 sensor with a parallax SX, and think I understand everything except one parameter in the datasheet. Hopefully someone here can make a bit more sense out of it. On the bottom of page 6 in the spec sheet is the Timing Characteristics table, with a field labeled "Data Output Valid", which corresponds with figure 5 on page 9. The table indicates that the minimum data valid time is 357ns, and the max 394. Does this mean that while CLK is high, the maximum time it could take for the data to be valid is 394ns, or does it mean that the data is valid only between 357 & 394ns? Any insight is appreciated.

Thanks,
Mark S

It means that the data will never become valid sooner than the minimum (357ns), and will always become valid by the maximum (394ns). From 394ns onward you can count on its being valid.

It's the former - as long as you read the data more than 394 ns after the clock rising edge it should be OK. The alternative simply doesn't make sense, and would be very difficult.

Ok.. That's what I figured, but I just wanted to make sure. Thanks for the quick responses!

    P.S.
Nice bike, Leon! I got myself an SV650 scool.gif
