BS2e to MOSFET P-CH 60v 3a

I'm designing in part(522-ZXMP6A17GTA...Mouser.com) as a switch. It's been suggested that I needed a series and to grd resistor on the Base of the Mosfet. Because of space constraints can I use a 1/8th watt SMT instead of the 1/4 watt SMT resistor???
PS: I also thought about using the (H11G1M Fairchild mfg.) part also...any thoughts or suggestions, the smaller the better. Prefer. (P-channel @ 1-2 amp max.), pulsed on for 2-3 seconds 3 times max. within a 90second time period. All advice welcomed.
