So you want the rollers at 45 degree. Looking at the picture of the wheel again, it doesn't look to me that the rollers are skewed, it looks like there are 2 rows of rollers. The 2nd row are 45 degrees offset but the individual rollers look flat so I dont think they will do what you want.

Just found them by accident on mcmaster.com part no 2289T3, they have other sizes as well.

Thanks for finding the McMaster Carr reference.

Correct, the wheels on the Parallax model and at McMaster Carr do not have the rollers "skewed" but "staggered". However, the rollers themselves look like they could be relatively easily adapted to the "macanum" configuration on a home made hub. I may order a few of the smaller sets from McMaster to try out.

If you want to try mecanum without the cost you can do what I did. I built a octagon shaped base. Put 4 omniwheels in each corner and drive all the wheels together. Gets you the same handling as a mecanum system.

Looks good. Parallax needs a bigger version for sure. The boe bot is impressive but still sort of a toy compaired to other platforms. DC motors are much more suitable for wheels and track bots.

The remaining 24 pass through the level shifters in groups of 8, so each group of 8 I/O pins can be 3.3V or 5V, but at the servo connector they are inherently 5V. To access them as 3.3V you must connect to the pads provided. Take care.

    What is this jumper for?

That jumper disables the level translators so that you can use the I/O pins directly at 3.3V. Normally these pads will not be populated on the control board as it comes, but in the picture you have you can see have stuffed them with a SIP header making it easier to connect to them for experimenting.

Any new information on the Stingray? It's been a while since there has been any info on this thread.

Thanks for all prior photos and info.

I suggest adding a keypad to the·Robot and emulating the Bigtrak from the 80's for one modification.

Ken, Chris -- any chance Parallax will offer just the Propeller robot control board on it's own? It looks like a great board and I'd love to have a few of those for my own home-brew chassis (plural).

    Zoot,

I agree. It looks perfect for robotics. Of course you need a Stingray too.·smilewinkgrin.gif

I think the man who designed the plexiglass cases for the prop board should develop a case top for the Stingray. It at least needs a cover to cover it and all of the sensors and boards which can be mounted which could be hard but someone will think of something.

This is something I was thinking about ... but you could also mount all boards and electronics inside (underneath the top panel). By removing two hex screws on a side sensor panel, and loosening the other two screws on the same panel, you could "swing" the panel open like a door if you didn't want to have to remove the top panel completely for access. Personally, I would rather mount everything inside and have much cleaner and less fragile 'bot.

I think the robot would be a great excuse to use gas sensors.· You could operate it in an area to check for gasses.· If the robot detects a gas, it would·play a tune on·the piezo speaker and start blinking led lights.

Zoot & Whit...the Control Board will be available separately at some point. At this time we're still trying to finalize some items, but that has always been the plan.

There was no mention of using noise suppresion capacitors on the motors in the assembly instructions. Are they not needed or are they built in to the motor?

The Stingray probably needs it's own new thread now for builds and mods.

hover, noise suppression capacitors are not needed in this design and are something you would add only if there was noise being generated that interfered with some sensor you were using. Take care.
