Ping and dusty conditions

Has anybody used a Ping sensor in dusty conditions? I can·predict that·the ultrasonic transducers wil·fill up with dust and not working after some time. Will the Ping transmit through a thin filter of some sort?

I want to use it as a rear object detector on the back of a combine to prevent damage to the rear of the combine if the operator can't see something like a telephone pole that is directly behind them.· Driving a combine is like putting wheels on your 2 car grage and drive it around. The operator has limited visibility even using mirrors. There are many blind spots on these machines with the rear of the machine being the most vunerable. And at a cost of almost $300,000 for a new machine rear sensor can prevent·alot of expensive repairs. Some operators use a cab camera system but those·can·cost $500 or more and the operator has to judge distance with those anyway.

I have a Ping and a Sonealert alarm for the cab. I am planning on using a PIC processor to handle the interface. It may be simple LED warning with audible alert when within a cetain distance.
