usb port problem?

I just got a basic stamp discovery kit (USB). I have the software and USB drivers installed but when I click on identify it tells me "no usable serial ports" I cant change any port options because the program does not see any com ports. I have tryed on two computers with the same result. Any advice?

    Perhaps you didn't install the USB drivers properly. Try downloading a fresh copy from Parallax including the FTDI driver and reinstalling both the driver and the Stamp Editor.

    Install the drivers BEFORE plugging in the USB device.

    tried both of those, neither one worked for me. Any other ideas?

    I encountered this problem with my laptop after the initial installation of the drivers and·resolved it by·re-starting the computer.

    bump anyone same problem tried 3 computers various OS multiple reboots/instillations getting ready to give up and take this thing back

    If you've tried a different cable then I would say taking it back is a good option.
