Trouble with DB9

Hello, my friend just gave me a BS2 recently. ive tried to connect it to using a DB9 male connector and some wires. I pretty much followed the manuals instructions but I guess I did something wrong because it isnt working. I wired pins 1-4 correctly.

I'm just wondering what I'm doing wrong and if someone could offer some help.

    You're probably going to need to be much more specific to get useful help.

    What kind of BS2 do you have? Just the module? Or is it a Homework Board? A Board of Education? A OEM board?

    What do you mean by "connect to it"? What are you trying to connect to what? Are you trying to connect it to a computer serial port so you can program it?

    Also, a BS2 has to have a power source, either a regulated 5V supply connected to the Vdd (+) and Vss (-) pins or a source of 6-9V DC connected to the Vin (+) and Vss (-) pins as shown in the manual.
