Propeller PockeTerm kit arrives

The N8VEM is a great CP/M board but up until now it has needed a terminal program on a PC to run. Not any more - the PockeTerm kit from Briel computers provides a good old-fashioned serial terminal solution and creates a standalone computer that does not need a PC drvernacula.topcities.com/n8vem.htm
This is where the Propeller really shines. The kit arrived today with all the parts and the documentation and took about half an hour to solder up. Not only did it work first time, but the eeprom came already pre-programmed. This was a "solder it up and plug it in" solution and I didn't even need to fire up the PC. Top marks for Vince for making it so easy, and top marks to parallax for designing such a cool chip.

Next step might be to see if that SD socket can't be turned into a disk drive on CP/M. And then start porting bits of the N8VEM into the propeller...

Vince did some amazing work taking my very raw VT100 code and making a polished project from it!

Kudos for a great finished product! My experimental terminal with PropDOS should run on it,
giving you some limited SD support. (There's a socket on the Pocketerm for uController's SD card.)

James - Thanks for the props. 30 minutes is good time for this kit. It is small but has a lot of components. I still think there is a lot more·that can be done code wise. I think I have the right balance between a terminal and a hobby board. I'm no Spin expert and I'm sure there are many ways to clean up my work :) There's still a buffer issue running both serial ports at higher speeds that needs tweaking.

OBC - You are too modest. Your VT100 code was nearly complete. That was my first time working on code with somebody. I highly recomend working with other people on code like that because when one gets stuck the other is there to find a way.

This is a great demo of the capabilities of the Propeller.
