Hi guys, a couple days ago i posted in the forum about possible new parallax ideas about wanting a way to program my prop wirelessly. Now i'm wondering if anybody has heard of a wireless adapter for usb, in which there is a usb port that will plug into my prop board, and either the same on the other side, or bluetooth. Anybody ever seen anything like this? if it just uses a virtual serial port, i don't see why it wouldn't work.

Russ

There are wireless adapters for USB, but they won't help you for programming a Propeller because the timing issues are still present in the USB link. You can use it for a data link, but not for programming. The only way you can program a Propeller wirelessly is to use some kind of error checking protocol to transfer the program from your PC as data (saving the compiled program to a data file) to a program running on some remote microcontroller which stores it in an EEPROM or on an SD card, then, when the transfer is done, locally downloads the program to a Propeller. The Propeller can do this itself, but not under control of the PC.

    Hi,

It is almost two years later after the initial post, and I was wondering if this timing problem issue Mike talks about has been solved. I was thinking about going out and getting a wireless D-Link usb hub for my PC. Sitting on the couch with the laptop is ok for programming, but what I want to do is set up the hardware, propeller demo board, a VGA and a propscope on the table about 10 feet from the couch while I relax and write some test code. Getting up to move a probe is ok, or to change the circuits, but having the be hardwired to all this is something I would like to solve for development purposes. I am pretty sure it will work with many different types of USB devices but am specificaly interested in if anyone know if this will work with the following two devices. 1. A USB propeller demo board, and 2. A propscope.

    ftp://ftp10.dlink.com/pdfs/products/DUB-2240/DUB-2240_ds.pdf

If this wireless USB device will not work, can someone suggest one that will.

    Thank You,
    Walt,

Another forum member has reported that this new wireless USB link works for programming a Stamp. Presumably it works with the Propeller as well. All I can say is "give it a try". I know that Parallax's WiFi device is expected to be able to program both the Stamps and the Propeller over a WiFi link, but it's not in production yet.
