??? The PPDB comes with a L293D chip ???

I'm confused, I started learing on the Bs2 Development board
and am just getting started with the prop (got the PE kit and a proto board)
I want the prop to drive a stepper motor and see the PPDB cames with the same push pull driver chip ( L293D )
but the data sheet has a min. voltage over·4 volts for logic?
won't it function poorly at 3.3 or is there some trick to using it?
I would like to know .·· Thank You.

    I believe that the logic high levels are above 2.3 V, but the power supply for the logic circuitry (Vcc1) needs to be at least 4.5 V. I used this chip with the prop with no problems, except that it tends to run hot on a breadboard (no heat sinking through pins).

    Cheers!

    @lockadoc

    Not sure if you are going to drive stepper on the PE Kit or PPDB but both boards come with a 5 Volt and 3.3 Regulator. On the PPDB Vdd to the L293D is supplied with 5VDC and Pin 8 (Vmtr) can be connected to Vin or an external supply. I use the standard power to drive the standardard Parallax stepper motor.

    Hope that helps.

    Thanks

    I was planing on buying a new chip (L293D) and using on the propeller Proto board or making a PCB for it.

    Is there a better chip to get instead?

    I have switched to the TI SN754410. Higher Peak Output Current (2000ma as opposed to 1200ma on the L293D) and broader operating temp range (-40c-85c as opposed to 0c-70c on the L293D, at least the TI versions). The SN754410 is also cheaper than the STM part. I just paid $1.65 at Mouser for mine. STM part was $5.12.

    Did I mention same pinout. Drop in replacement.

    Great Answer for the better chip.

    ···· thanks
