Hey guys I am pulling my hair out I can not get the Prop Tool to display the text right in the editor window properly ..
It used to work fine I have windows vista I tried all settings nothing has changed and all other programs work display text just fine,
I am set to 1280X1024 high color 32 bit I am very well informed on how to use windows so I know thats not it what is happening is when I run the prop IDE I also tried 1.0 version in the text editor it chops off charectors
so con becomes co and pub pu you get it I tried the few settings in the IDE with no luck what is going on????
I have not changed anything on computer and like I said everything else works just fine word/excel/ all my pic and free scale editors
just the prop tool I did download the newest copy but even tried the older one that comes on the hydra disk same problem
wish I could post it so you can see it it actuallys types CON but chops off most of the N os ITS C O and one line of the N same thing on PUB and VAR
it cuts off most of the last chatector
any help or thoughts ???
thanks

How about a screenshot? I don't do Windows, but I recall you used to be able to press the PrintScreen key to copy the current screen to the clipboard, then paste it into Paint or some other graphics package to save the screenshot.

It sounds like a font rendering problem. Is the Parallax font properly installed for the user you are running the Propeller Tool under?

I remember something similar to this coming up once before but can't locate the thread. I had it where the characters in the IDE seemed compress / overlapping , I was running XP at the time and the cure for me was to locate the Parallax font and delete it. I am on a machine with Vista now and a search didn't even locate the Parallax font , maybe the install has changed I don't know.

Jeff Martin of Parallax was looking into if I remember right ,· perhaps you can contact him·about·the problem.

First mistake is running vista. It's was the last nail in Microsofts Cofin to me. Switch to mac after seeing that piece of junk.

Besides that I remember seeing it posted that the parallax font had to be installed and set up under the administrator or it would not work properly.

Now that BradC has made BST, we can all switch to Ubuntu and use that! No more winblows! smilewinkgrin.gif

That looks vaguely familiar. However, the issue with my setup was that I ran the PropTool under XP(JPN).

I assure you it is not Vista. I am running Vista 64 bit and Windows 7 no problems. Remember a computer does what its told to do. Perhaps its your setting or video setting or font.

As a side note, I get that (character misplacement) sometimes when viewing a PDF in Unix. It prints fine though...

My brain is a bit foggy, but I seem to remember this being fixed by making sure that "English (United States)" was set for the language in the "Regional and Language Options" (look in Control Panel).

More info, by accident I went into the view charector chart in the prop tool , all the extended shcematic symbols are gone , it only show the basic asscii stuff so it would seem I am missing some fonts I have tried copying the prop tool from a good working machine with no luck something is hooky and I can not figure it out, its not any of my settings I know how to check all that but I agree something is not right probably with vista but I just can not find it

Can you verify that the parallax font is installed (Accessories->System Tools->Char View)? As you said, the built-in font viewer doesn't show the schematics which suggest that it can't locate the font or something like that.

Hi, this is the link to the thread I mentioned earlier. http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php?p=684568

Did you try and locate the Parallax.ttf and delete it.

I just had a similar issue using BST on ubuntu. I would suggest doing the following:

    uninstall the prop tool.

Either log in as administrator or right click on the installer and select the run as administrator option.

Hopefully that will fix your issue. Vista will not allow you to write to the windows directory or sub folders there of unless you are administrator hence that is why the font is not installed.

Thanks everyone for all the help, here is what I finally found with everyones help ,, on my vista desktop for some reason I did not have the parallax font in my fonts directory no matter what I tired installing removing and re-installing the prop tool did no good it would not regenerate the prop tool font so I finally just copied off this site from a link you guys provided me with and BAM the prop tool works fine THANKS YOU ALL
I do not understand why this copy of vista will not create the parallax font while it is installing the prop tool. I am the admin like I said everything else works fine I even made sure the registry was clean before the install I have tired all version of the prop tool even the old .9 ..
So I guess the fix for anyone else with this problem is make sure you have the parallax font installed first the easiest way is to go into the prop tool and open up the charactor set and amke wure you have all the fonts and including the shcematic symbols if you dont copy the parallax font into the right dir and your all set

You have to use the administrator account there is a difference. Just because you have admin rights doesn't give you full access. But I am glad to here you got it resolved.
