Question: Should I attend an EXPO???

There are a few new Propeller users who I'm sure have seen the "EXPO" threads.
(and a few who didn't come last year.)
If you can manage it, the Expo's are a perfect place for new and expert Propeller users alike!
Here is the expo report from last year.
Also, here is a ton of pictures from last year's event.

UPEW (@Parallax Rockln, CA June 27-28th 2009)
UPENE (Norwalk, OH End-of-August 2009 TBA)
I'm also starting this thread to commit myself to start the video downloads from my camera today. {to be posted in this thread}

My room cost me $22.
Show up early because there is free-bee table... stuff that guys clear off their shelves that you will want to have...
Last year I got a $1 keyboard that Bean(?) was offering... only to find that the Missus had just bought the same keyboard for my daughter... for $30:)
Yes... you should go.

Parallax has enlisted ourselves as OBC's helper, promising not to affect the tone, content, or choice of vendors or demonstrations at the UPEW.
We'll provide the space and be present, but promise not to commercialize the opportunity or flavor of the event. <= ohh that's difficult for somebody like me to put in writing as you can imagine, but I can do it, I promise.
I'll be requesting a Propeller table for my projects, too.
Ken Gracey
Parallax, Inc.
You guys and gals are fabulous. And I don't think you hear it enough.
Honest to God, Boy Scout's honor, I was really hoping for the West Coast meeting to go off the charts on "flavor"... camping tents on your lawn. Camp fires and rocket launches at night. As if Parallax was being invaded by a hoard of Propheads.
I don't know what a picture of your office surrounded by tents would be worth in the media... but it would mean a lot to me:)
Sounds like it is going to be just a little more conservative than that, but I can't wait.
This is going to be a long couple of months.

Tents, RVs and people sleeping in their cars are totally welcome at Parallax. We have a parking lot large enough to handle hundreds of cars and the office has four (4) showers. I already told OBC that if it gets big, really big, that we'd also get a tent outside. This is one benefit of Parallax not "running" the event. From a corporate perspective people could get concerned about different issues like insurance, office policies, etc. But all I have to do is give tours and hand out free stuff, and keep our basic rules in tact which won't negate the fun and sharing anyway. And when the city folks show up I'll tell them that the organizer is on a plane back to OH.
Rich, are you coming here?

If I break even on my propmod endever I will consider taking a few days off and driving down.

I have a question on entering the U.S. for anyone with experience.
I will be flying from Ottawa, ON - are there any issues passing through homeland security with your equipment. I plan to bring everything by hand with a list of materials going in and out of the country with a short summary of the event.
Mctrivia, I am going to check out propmod.
OBC and Parallax, thank you for organizing this - I haven't been to something like this since 1985.

Getting in won't be a problem. Getting out could be a hassle. What you need is an official looking letter of invitation on Parallax letter-head and a copy of your e-mail confirmation. You could pick the letter up at the meeting. I'm sure you aren't the only one with this issue.
Once you make the determination to any "official" documentation you need, don't
hesitate to contact myself or Ken. We'll do what it takes on this end.
My last trip to your neck of the woods was a "PAIN" to get into
with my electronics, but it was smooth sailing coming back.
Best advice I could give you is to clearly inventory and document everything.
(IIRC, you guys have a form that is used for this.)
You might even consider shipping anything that might become an issue directly
to Parallax. Packages need to be address to Ken Gracey directly. I would also
label the box UPEW and let him know it's on it's way.

I ended up taking the prop-education kit package stuffed with all sorts of electronics and tools, and the security didn't even bat an eye.
(which were in my suitcase.) The desk didn't care.
On my way back, I had several Parallax parts items in my carry-on and in my pockets.
(I didn't want to risk my OLED getting broke, so it was in my shirt pocket.)
TSA didn't care, but I think they were amused that I had to take 10 minutes to unload
all my pockets, etc. Then another 10 to put everything back.
It looked a little like this video where a student pulls a dozen weapons hidden on
his body and places them on the table, only with electronics.
Bottom line, I guess nerds don't look like trouble. :)
