I never knew this was possible. If you have the right hardware, you may be able to interface directly with i2c devices from your computer:

    Even easier for some of us Linux users (Only as we sometimes use generic x86 hardware). A lot of motherboards have the SMBus either brought out to headers or fairly easily accessible on the motherboard. As a last resort it's also accessed on memory DIMMS connected to the on-board eeproms.

    It may be accessed a similar way on Macs, I've just not dared break into mine to look. Generic x86 gear is often cheap enough to play with.. Mac's aren't!
