Little step-u motor power supply.

I have a Basic Stamp BOE and I'm wiring a Little Step-U as in the diagram below. I am using the Vdd and Vss of the Basic Stamp to power the logic section of the Little Step-U.
The documentation for the Little Step-U says the logic ground and motor ground are common and I confirmed it with a multimeter. My question is :
  • If I use a separate 12V 5A power supply for the motor, will the separate grounds burn something in the circuit ?

From the schematic, it does not seem to be an issue..

    No, as long as only the ground and signal are connected you will be OK. The ground is the reference the stamp pin needs to be high or low in relation to.

    Good. I completed the wiring and applied power. No magic smoke released yet. Let's see what happens after applying voltages to the motor phases.
    Anyone know of a good "free" flow charting program ?
