Propeller 2 Sine Wave Input and Output Video

PropHeads,

Yesterday I caught Chip showing Jeff a feature on the Propeller 2 in which he was generating two sine waves using counters from one cog. One example, if I understand it correctly, is that you could use a single transducer to send and receive ultrasonic frequencies.·Chip seems to get transported to another planet when he talks about some of these things so I promptly whipped out the camera to get a bit of video. There's even a shot of the Propeller 2 test FPGA.

I could post this on YouTube if you are interested.

One condition, though: please don't ask when Propeller 2 will be available for sale.

Thank you,

Ken Gracey

    Ken Gracey (Parallax),

    Nice!,

I think Chip was still indicating that there would still be two Ultrasonic transducers, One would transmit, and the other would receive simultaneously. By measuring the phase difference between the transmitted signal verses the phase difference of the received signal in combination with the amplitude received, you could detect relative distance that way.

This could be huge for anybody wanting to make a robot. Imagine how much easyer and cheaper it could be to have a ring of sensors around a robot.

All of you guys are excited? This is criminal! How dare you be a Prop II tease, Ken? Aren't there crazy California laws against this sort of thing? This is going to make so many of us cry in our sleep in anticipation.... The worst part? "Don't ask when it will be ready". I'm boycotting Parallax. :)

I would like to congratulate everyone. You have all been very well behaved and haven't asked when you can buy a PropII.

If I understand Chip correctly... he is basically saying that in addition to the usual measurements that we all know and love... the PropII will open the door to ultrasonic imaging... which is fine with me:)

    So Ken,

    1. When can I order a PropII?... I'm not asking about buying ... just about ordering:) You guys are going to run out of PropIIs in about a day and heaven forbid I should miss your announcement.

    2. If you do accept pre-orders, given the anticipated rate of inflation (which is the only way to balance the budget and pay for the stimulus), will the price of the PropII be stated in dollars or gold equivalents?

I am personally in favor of putting all of Parallax's products on the gold standard.

    Rich,

If you could see the web site on the left monitor in Chip's office, you'd notice that it shows GOLD prices for the day of Thursday. So, we're already prepared to start trading in gold, wheat, cookies or whatever else our customers want to barter. I knew we were in trouble about two years ago when some of our Chinese suppliers would no longer accept USD. They wanted only RMB once the USD continued to steadily decrease against their currency.

Don't dare get chip started on USA fiscal policy, the Fed, bailouts, etc. Please, please. I promise to send you a free Prop 2 if you don't talk about current political events with Chip. Such a distraction could cause him to delay completion of Prop 2. Did you know that? That's how serious the issue will become - all forum members will have to wait longer for the next Prop.

But seriously, I love the way you guys at Parallax talk about Chip. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I just have this image of Chip slaving away by a computer with various electronics strewn about with Ken, Jeff, and Beau trading shifts, whipping Chip and yelling at him to finish. Chips hair is very disheveled with a full beard and looks like he hasn't showered in weeks.

    Accurate at all?

No, but I've got some teenagers offered... *real cheap!* :) :)

Been a long time since our baby days. Told the wife that holding Chip's baby made me
consider the idea of an addition to the Ledger clan. Of course she told me to go to **** :)

I'm slowly learning to enjoy the teenage years.. :) Chip will too!

    All,

Let's not get tunnel vision... "ultrasound" was thrown out as an example ... step back and take a look at the much broader picture of what can be possible.

    ·

    Paul Sr.,

Yes, that is essentially how radar works... Ahem, and it could be done with ultrasonics.

    Oldbit,

    I agree about the video.

BUT... I don't know how to say this without sounding sarcastic... except to declare: this isn't sarcasm.

I really loved how Chip reduced a bunch of math and electronics to a simple circular motion of his index finger.

I immediately sensed that I understood exactly what he was saying ... without really knowing what the heck he was talking about. With a simple motion of his index finger, the bottom line became really obvious.

    Beau

Ultrasonic radar would also be a lot safer for the user

    Here's my short list:

    1. LIDAR will probably require an extra chip... probably from NI.
    2. MRI is already possible... but the pixel count is about to go way up:)
    3. Real-time 3D mapping... 2 PropIIs
    4. One chip EEG's
    5. EEG mapping... two PropIIs
    F. Walnut picking already possible with Prop
    G. Very fast walnut picking: PropII.

    AND

    Really Smart Diapers

I would love to see a portable MRI machine using super conductive wire and a prop. Only difficulty is keeping the wires to -70C to keep them conducting.
