ASUS Eee PC 1015PX-PU17-BU Blue Intel Atom N570(1.66GHz) Dual Core 10.1" WSVGA 1GB Memory 250GB
I upgraded to 2 GB RAm. The battery life is what really sold me and has not disappointed. Lasts up to about 9 hours of standard use. This drops a couple hours if I add my external DVD player and watch movies, but that is not why I bought it. Price was $290.00 plus $8.00 for super fast shipping. I purchased this because I install CCTV cameras and messing with a huge laptop when 40 feet in the air is no fun. It has an RJ 45 port so I can just connect IP cameras to it and adjust as needed. I have to say so far I am VERY impressed with it. I also like the fact that I can use my Bluetooth phone to connect to the internet and connect the Netbook through it. No wireless data charges!!!
What brand of IP-cameras?
Axis have a small handheld monitor with an RJ45 connector that delivers Power over Ethernet for just this type of work.
(I'm nagging my boss on and off about getting me one, but so far he doesn't understand the advantage to a handheld monitor vs. a 'big' laptop)
Wouldn't surprise me if other camera manufacturers also have something similar...
You know...
I'd forgotten that people in the USA just about have to buy the EEEpc on the net or not at all - very few retail outlets as the margins have always been tight.
Hello Kitty cancels pink? What is the sub-text of Phil's message? Are there closet "Hello Kitty" fans amongst the "real men"?
There is a reason that you can buy a good Acer netbook at Walmart. They need the exposure. But selling wholesale to Walmart is a rather brutal experience for anyone - very few find a desire to sustain the relationship.
I sell and install various IP cameras depending on the situation, client, etc. I have seen the Axis device but if I am not mistaken is a bit pricey. Also, does it work with all IP cameras or just Axis? I just found it more economical to get the netbook and have other uses for it.
I bought the EeePC from NewEgg. It only took 3 days to get here and since I was in no hurry for it that was not a big issue.
Their handeld monitor is designed to work only with their cameras, yes.
But it's the size of a somewhat lumpy industrial handheld, so you can actually use it while standing on a ladder right underneath the camera. It can also be used to set up IP and all that on them, as I understand it.

What? I bought my work EEEpc (so much nicer when balancing on one hand and typing with the other as they clean up a chicken plant around you) and my wife's (so much nicer when you're throwing everything in a bag to evacuate) at Best Buy, retail. A couple of months ago I saw they had pulled all the netbooks because some bean counter thought tablets were the next big thing, but last week I noticed the netbooks were back so sanity must have prevailed.
