Windows Application Testers Needed for Propalyzer

Hello Everyone,

I'm looking for Windows testers for "Propalyzer" a propeller serial interface logic analyzer gui application. Propalyzer in the distributed form will be "Freeware" with limited support. The current sample rate is 20MHz. An 80MHz sample rate version is in progress. Two application screenshots are included for your entertainment.

Please contact me via Private Message if you are interested in testing Propalyzer.

This is something like the original Viewport, right? Do you also have a high-speed serial connection to the PC over the FTDI chip?

    Hi Rayman,

I've not given any thought to any variation of Viewport. I wish Hanno the best with his efforts since he is generating an income stream and has the burden of maintenance and support.

My effort is a freeware toy - you pay for what you get. I've spent a grand total of 10 days on this, and beyond whatever issues I care to fix from testers, that's about all I plan to spend except for looking into integrating Ray's 80MHz data-logger. I've not tried to do some high-speed serial and do not think it's worth the trouble. If there are any similarities to some other software product, they are not intentional.

My primary motivation was originally for a project bringup because nothing I considered adequate was accessible at the time other than various data-loggers and "internal" analyzers. I remember what I liked about the 16500A HP logic analyzer, and have implemented a pin-group field feature and various controls similar to that. I'm using a piggy-back dip propeller for getting data off the propeller dip under test, so I added a build/download feature since the piggy-back-prop has no eeprom.

Would you like a WINE tester? (I'm running Ubuntu here)

Sure OBC. The development platform is Visual C# Express 2008 and .NET 3.5 ... not sure if that works on WINE, but it would be interesting to find out. Send me a PM and I'll give you download, etc... details.

Is there a reason you cannot use the 2.0 framework?

I've built a version that targets .net 2.0 framework if you want to try it. Works for me with small differences on .net 3.5.

Jazzed - yes I'll give it a workout. Interesting about piggybacking another prop. I just used the same prop for my tests, but of course locked away 6 cogs in the process smile.gif

    Thanks Ray.

Since I'm using a variant of your data-logger for the 50ns sampler, you will find I've given you credit for that in the Help -> About menu.

Someone asked for a schematic for the Piggyback Propeller. A picture with notes is attached.

BTW, for those who have downloaded the package, a user guide is in the zip in Propalyzer.txt. Don't know how I forgot to mention that in the download notes :)

Hello. I've had feedback from one person out of about 10. Please take time to send comments about how far you got with the program and if there are fixes you would like to see.

As we used to say at Cisco, I've been "eating my own dog-food." This means I've had a good opportunity to consider and implement program refinements. I have updated the application to eliminate some annoyances such as mask, arm, trigger, and show tex box entry behaviour. I've added keyboard arrow controls for the data display. See Propalyzer.txt for keyboard controls. I put in a capture abort feature that halts capture when any control parameter changes or a download starts.

The .net 3.5 package is in the same place as before in Propalyzer_1007.zip ... I will produce a .net 2.0 zip if necessary.

My apologies jazzed. Part of the problem here is that I have no hardware as of yet to test this with. All I have is a bunch of QFP's laying around. I didn't feel like reinstalling 3.5 either, but I have this feeling that all of the sudden I'll need this.

Jazzed - Unfortunately not tried yet - trying to finish a pcb layout and driving back to Sydney, so will look next week and let you know then.

I have posted a new version (Propalyzer_1008.zip) for testing in the usual place where testers know to find it. This version puts the application closer to distribution.

    New features include:

    - Full resize ability.
    - 12.5, 25, 50, 100, 200, 250+ ns sample periods.
    - A state list that can track the waveform cursor.
    - Supports .net 2.0+ (installer no longer checks or updates·.net version).

Please read the Propalyzer.txt file for required spin details.
I fully expect to demo this application and other toys in June.

Some feedback I've gotten so far is very encouraging. Thanks for your help.
