RFID card FYI

Just thought I'd pass this on.. Should save anyone else destroying one to confirm.

The RFID "cards" that Parallax sells contain the RFID at the center of the card.
It is about a 2" circle at the center of the card. The rest of the card can
be shaped and modified at whim without damage to it's functionality.

So far, a coil of wire at about 2"
I haven't destroyed it to the center. *yet*

They are extremely well glued together.

I'll have my Chiropractor buddy toss one under his X-ray machine
and I'll see if we can get a good Xray. [noparse]:)[/noparse]

Besides the antenna (coil of wire) there will be the actual IC, probably in an EMDFN-02 plastic package that is 2.2mmx1.78mm. The IC contains the circuitry to rectify the 125Khz signal for power, generate a clock, read the data from memory, encode this data (typically Manchester format), and modulate the data back into the antenna to transmit the memory contents to the reader. Attached is a picture of an RFID read only chip that has not been attached to an antenna. I'll try to remember to bring one of my Parallax cards into work tomorrow and x-ray it.

With a very bright backlight you can see through the card. I did this and mapped my results. The coil is close, but not exactly center.
