SX28 VS SX48 external clocking

Well this crack head decided to get moving again, and try things again.

Well i got a 6v lantern battery to try out. I had 4 d cells in series, but dropped the case, and broke it. With my sx tech board/sx28 i was able to get my dual led flash program to work with the battery with a 50mhz resonator, but not the ac adapter. So i decided to test all my resonators, they were good, 4mhz ones seemed to like XT1, 20mhz HS1, and 50mhz all but one HS1. The one that didn't likes HS2. Feeling hopeful, I tried the battery on my sx48 protoboard, with a 50mhz resonator. Nope, couldn't get it, works great with internal clock, sxkey clock, but not external resonator. Why? It is the same circuit. I moved the circuit, back over to the sx tech board, with the same resonator, and it works perfectly.

For production use, how do you guarantee a resonator will work? IE I have been thinking of doing the project gangster route, to hopefully supply my addiction kind of thing. How do I know the 50mhz, the only parallax supplied resonator in their inventory, will work? Do I keep it at HS1 or do HS2 just in case?

Did you have a resistor across the outside resonator leads ?
I think something like 100K to 1M will help the issue you are having.

There is a fine line between arrogance and confidence. Make sure you don't cross it...

I know in the past I've tried using a resistor with this board, but will try again. Why do I need the resistor with the 48, and not the 28?
